How to instantly descale a kettle: simple life hacks
Kettle limescale is a problem faced by everyone who uses tap water. White or yellowish deposits not only spoil the appearance of dishes but also affect the taste of drinks. It can also cause electric kettles to break down.
It is important to clean the appliance regularly to avoid unpleasant consequences. Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to quickly and effectively get rid of scale without any extra effort.
The FoodOboz editorial team will tell you about the most effective methods of cleaning the kettle. You can choose any of the following.
1. Citric acid or fresh lemon
This is one of the easiest and most common methods. It is suitable for any type of kettle: plastic, metal, or glass.
1. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of citric acid into the kettle.
2. Fill with water to the maximum mark.
3. Bring to a boil and leave for 15-20 minutes.
4. Pour out the solution, rinse the kettle with clean water, and boil it again with water without impurities.
An alternative is fresh lemon. Cut it into several pieces, throw it into the kettle, cover it with water, and follow the same procedure.
2. Vinegar
Vinegar is an excellent descaling agent but should be used with caution, especially in electric kettles.
1. Mix 100 ml of vinegar with 1 liter of water.
2. Pour the solution into the kettle and bring to a boil.
3. Let cool and leave for 15-20 minutes.
4. Pour out the liquid, rinse the kettle well, and boil clean water in it several times.
3. Baking soda
This method is suitable for those who do not want to use acids.
1. Pour 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the kettle.
2. Pour water to the maximum level and bring to a boil.
3. Leave for 30 minutes, then drain and rinse the kettle.
4. Sparkling water
An unusual but very effective method. Soda contains carbon dioxide, which dissolves scale well.
1. Pour any sparkling water without coloring or flavoring into the kettle.
2. Let it stand for 2-3 hours or bring it to a boil.
3. Pour out the water and rinse the kettle with clean water.
Prevention of scale formation
- Use filtered water.
- Do not leave water in the kettle for a long time.
- Clean the kettle regularly, without waiting for a thick layer of plaque to form.
