On December 5, Kyiv hosted the Miss Ukraine 2024 beauty pageant, which was held live for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. Mariia Melnychenko, 20, won the national stage, which was broadcast on the M1 TV channel, and will represent Ukraine on the international stage next year.
“My heart is full of emotions: pride, gratitude, and trembling excitement for the future. For me, this title is not only about beauty but also about the opportunity to speak about my country, to tell the world about its strength and invincibility,” the winner wrote on her Instagram page. There are new challenges ahead and a mission to represent Ukraine on the world stage. I promise to work hard to justify your trust.”
Melnychenko has been working as a model for two years, combining her career and studies – she is currently a 4th-year student at the State Tax University, where she studies finance. The girl leads an active lifestyle and has been practicing ballroom dancing for 10 years. The beauty has mastered skiing and snowboarding, and also regularly goes in for sports.
“In addition, Mariia actively supports military training and charitable initiatives, realizing her desire to help others. She has become a true symbol of beauty, talent, and social responsibility,” the contest post reads.
As part of the Miss Ukraine 2024 contest, 18 participants had to showcase themselves during four exits. Each of them had a special name: “Performance on Water,” “Pottery Universe,” “Light and Technology,” and “Mirror Finale.” At the end of the Miss Ukraine 2022 show, Sofiia Shamiia handed over the crown to the winner, and the Vice Miss was elected.
As a reminder, Miss Ukraine 2024 was held live for the first time in three years. The national beauty pageant has existed for more than 30 years, and the titleholder traditionally represents the country in the international arena as Miss World. This year, the pageant team decided to use the platform as a platform for help and focused on supporting women who are defending Ukraine at the front. The funds raised during the show will be transferred to the “Zemliachky” public organization, which closes requests for military women’s uniforms, ammunition, and shoes.
